Volunteer of the Month
Jenni Helland
December Volunteer of the Month
Every month, The Justice Center features one of our volunteers who goes above and beyond on behalf of our clients. This month that volunteer is Jennifer Helland!
Jenni is a family law attorney and founding partner at Knies, Helland & McPherson Law. She has been an attorney for 13 years and practices in the areas of Domestic Relations, D&N, CLR, PC/DM, and Adoptions/Guardianship. She graduated from the University of St. Thomas (Minnesota) in 2008.
Jenni is passionate about her volunteering as she outlines below for us:
“I have always been active as a volunteer in the community in a variety of capacities… I believe that it is our duty as attorneys to engage in pro bono work and to uphold our oath, ‘I will use my knowledge of the law for the betterment of society and the improvement of the legal system”,’ and provide opportunities and representation to those who otherwise would not have an advocate and are oppressed. I also think that it is our duty as human beings to volunteer and use our gifts and calling for the betterment of our community and fellow man. I enjoy learning and challenging myself! I don’t just volunteer in the legal community, I have been afforded amazing opportunities to volunteer as a member of various boards, founding a charter school in D49, coaching youth hockey coach for 19 years, and serving regularly at the Salvation Army – all of which have been nothing short of fulfilling and incredible experiences.”
To her fellow volunteers, Jenni offers the following advice:
“Be diligent in your service, know why you are serving and make that your purpose and passion. A pro bono client deserves the same effort and diligent representation as a paying client. Your time, as precious as it is, should be given to others whenever possible, if an impact can be made for the better.”
Thank you, Jenni, for all that you have done for the Colorado Springs community!
The Justice Center is always thankful for the time that our volunteers donate to the cause for legal access. Each and every month, we will feature one of our volunteers on this page. Would you like to be featured? Reach out to us at hello@justicecentercos.org and start volunteering with us!
