Volunteer of the Month
Jeanne Wilson
The Law Office of Jeanne M. Wilson & Associates, P.C.
January Volunteer of the Month
Every month, The Justice Center features one of our volunteers who goes above and beyond on behalf of our clients. This month, that volunteer is Jeanne Wilson.
Jeanne is a family law attorney in town with her own practice, and she is one of our very regular volunteers at Call A Lawyer! Jeanne has been practicing law for 33 years, starting off in Ohio, then transitioning to Colorado in 1993.
Jeanne attended Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland, Ohio. She chose that law school because, at the time, she was a full-time registered nurse in Cleveland. Law school was only a block from where she worked, which allowed her to attend law school full-time and work full-time.
On why she volunteers:
“I volunteer to give people strength and hope that their life will be OK--even if it is so difficult and disappointing right now. I definitely understand that most people are not as lucky as me. Most don't have access to the financial and intellectual and emotional resources and life practices that have been part of my everyday existence. I was given the best parents and every opportunity to succeed--according to my definition of success. I married the best husband who encourages everything I do or want to do. Unlike most victims of violence, I was able to easily overcome a situation of domestic violence in my late teens because of the infrastructure of love and support and encouragement with which I grew up. Today I can help others find their strength to overcome the emotional challenges they face in failed relationships or battles for the children they love most.”
“For of those to whom much is given much is required.” -John F. Kennedy
To her fellow volunteers, Jeanne offers the following advice:
“On Call A Lawyer night, be well rested and calm and patient. Many of the callers have a good grasp on what is happening in their case. But many are also lost and feeling victimized and some are truly helpless and still falling down with no way up. Try to encourage as well as be factual. Find one thing you can tell them that will help - even if everything else is a mess.”
A fun fact about Jeanne:
“Decorating is my obsession. I literally decorate/change/organize/fuss with everything around me all the time. A friend once said, ‘she can't leave anything alone,’- and this is true.
My spirit animal is a crow - a crafty scavenger in black.”
Thank you, Jeanne, for all that you have done for the Colorado Springs community!
The Justice Center is always thankful for the time that our volunteers donate to the cause for legal access. Each and every month, we will feature one of our volunteers on this page. Would you like to be featured? Reach out to us at hello@justicecentercos.org and start volunteering with us!
